Mason enters his ninth year as both Founder and Director of TCA Volleyball Club, continuing his pursuit of excellence both on and off the court. On the court, TCA Volleyball Club has won three Open Junior National Championships in the 17′s division in 2004 and 18′s division in 2006 and 2008, along with several National Qualifier Championships. Over the last few years, they have amassed successes at every age level. In 2006, Mason even was honored by the United States Olympic Committee as the 2006 Developmental Coach of the Year for the sport of volleyball!
Off the court, Mason is currently growing the TCA brand nationwide as he serves as the company’s Chief Executive Officer. Mason has also been leading the expansion of NM Enterprises, as it has grown from a small entity with a few customers to a multi-national firm serving thousands of customers nationwide. Company locations are now in Maryland, Texas, Georgia, Northern and Southern California, Michigan, Virginia, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oregon and New Jersey. The company employs over 150 people nationwide and continues to expand. As TCA’s director, Mason is currently focusing all of his energies and is gearing his efforts to utilize the sport of volleyball as a vehicle and tool in teaching life skills to young athletes across the nation.
Mason gave up his playing career to pursue and fulfill his life vision of working in youth sports and empowering change through positive self-belief. Out of this vision, Complete Athlete Incorporated and TCA Volleyball Club were started. Mason, who
earnestly espouses that “What you believe is what you become,” jump-started his career based on that philosophy and propelled his organization to the top of the club volleyball scene. At TCA, Mason has coached more than 20 Junior Olympic All-American Athletes; has placed over 185 Athletes in NCAA/NAIA programs; has developed more than 40+ USAV high performance team members, and, in 2008 alone, had four Gatorade “Players of the Year” in four different states. Since 1999, TCA Volleyball has represented the State of California as the only team to win the 18-U Junior Olympics in the Open Division. In recent years, Mason’s teams have s earned three gold medals, one bronze, and a fifth place finish in the Open. TCA is no stranger to the Junior Olympics. In 2008, TCA California qualified into the Junior Olympics at every age bracket, from the 14’s level to the 18’s level. In addition to Mason’s original location, his teams qualified in three different regions across the nation. His coaching methods and ability to motivate and direct players have been keys to these successes. A comprehensive list of TCA’s recent successes can be found below, as well as a list of all the players Mason has ever worked with, and their individual successes.
Outside of TCA, Mason recently spent time coaching the USA Youth National Team Holiday Camp in Chula Vista, California. He also coached the USA Youth National A2 Team in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 2007 and 2006 at the High Performance Championships, also in Ft. Lauderdale. In July of 2008, Coach Mason served as the Assistant Coach of the U.S.A. Girls’ Youth National Team that won the gold medal at the NORCECA Girls’ Youth Continental Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.
Mason spent his college career playing for the 49ers of Long Beach State as a scholarship athlete. Graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 2000, Mason was an Academic All American, a President Ambassador, and a member of the Presidential List while at the Beach. Along with his academic successes, Mason was also successful on the court as part of the 1999 Men’s Volleyball Team that went on to be runners-up in the NCAA National Championship that year.
Prior to his collegiate career, Mason was MVP of the Canadian National Team Challenge Cup. Mason also played internationally for his native Canada. He was a member of the Canadian Junior National Team that competed in the 1995 N.O.R.C.E.C.A championships in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Mason played four years for Pope John Paul II high school, and was named the team’s most valuable player all four years. Even from a young age, Mason knew his passion lay with volleyball. “I like to be unique,” Mason said of choosing volleyball instead of the other sports. “I figure why be one of a hundred, when you can be one of one.”
Mason, above all, is a motivator and passionate leader. Instilling confidence and direction in his players and coaches is his top priority. Mason teaches and lives by a simple motto that “Thoughts are things and there is nothing you cannot achieve if you visualize, apply yourself, and dedicate all your necessary effort.
